SUMMARY:ACEs 201: Why Should I Care About Adverse Childhood Experiences And My Students? What Does It Mean For My Classroom? What Does It Mean For My Community?
DESCRIPTION:ACEs 201 is a deeper dive into ACEs that requires previous attendance at either the DLS talk on the evening of March 7\, or the PK Institute we hosted in August\, 2018. \nOur schools care about students and their futures. Our schools use amazing best practices to improve aspirations\, test scores\, graduation rates\, college going rates\, and retention rates\, but still we are losing too many of our students. As teachers\, guidance counselors\, and school administrators we know we need to do better\, but how. This session takes a look at ACEs- Adverse Childhood Experiences and the impact of these experiences on school success. What we know from ACEs is that a trauma informed approach is needed in schools and without acknowledging and responding to the impact adversity has on developing brains and on social and emotional development\, we will never close the achievement gap. \nPlease join us to learn how to make a difference with your students and our community.

SUMMARY:ACEs 101 [For EdTechs]: Why Should I Care About Adverse Childhood Experiences And My Students? What Does It Mean For My Classroom? What Does It Mean For My Community?
DESCRIPTION:Our schools care about students and their futures. Our schools use amazing best practices to improve aspirations\, test scores\, graduation rates\, college going rates\, and retention rates\, but still we are losing too many of our students. As teachers\, guidance counselors\, and school administrators we know we need to do better\, but how. What we know from ACEs is that a trauma informed approach is needed in schools and without acknowledging and responding to the impact adversity has on developing brains and on social and emotional development\, we will never close the achievement gap. This session seeks to share the very basic information of the ACEs study and what that means for educators\, students\, parents\, and communities. If you never have heard of the ACEs study\, this session is for you. If you have heard of the ACEs study but are not familiar with the specifics and how this impacts your classroom\, this session is for you. This session is the starting point for all teachers and schools wishing to create more trauma informed school cultures.

SUMMARY:Maine DOE Presentation on ESSA
DESCRIPTION:Every element of our education system works toward the goal of ensuring all students are prepared for success. This session will provide participants with a review of important changes resulting from the implementation of Every Student Succeeds Act* (ESSA) including an overview of Maine’s Model for School Supports and indicators of school success. There will be an opportunity to pose questions related to Maine’s Model of School Supports. \nThe Maine DOE (Department) is trying to ensure all stakeholders have a foundational knowledge of the Model of School Supports so has been reaching out to stakeholder groups in order to present the information and engage in a dialogue. Additionally\, the Department has revamped the Report Card and is taking a dashboard approach. The Department will share a snapshot of this new report card during the presentation. \n*Signed into law December 2015 by President Obama the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) reauthorizes the fifty (50) year old Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965 by replacing key requirements of the outdated No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001. Beginning in 2016\, the U.S. Department of Education took the first steps to implement ESSA.\n.

He is currently a secondary principal and resides in Visalia\, CA. \nIn 2010\, Scott published the book\, Win Their Hearts… Win Their Minds. The inspirational book has become a manifest for educators to be dream makers in their students’ lives. \nMost educators today struggle with being asked to do so much and with so little. The feel overwhelmed\, underappreciated\, inadequate and exasperated. They are being asked to inspire students when they themselves struggle to be inspired. They are being asked to connect with students when the current generation of your people is so disenfranchised\, guarded and unyielding. Thus\, Scott Braden is committed and dedicated to inspiring\, equipping and empowering educators in personal growth\, student connectedness and positive school climate. \nHaving traveled nationally and internationally as a motivational and inspirational speaker\, Scott’s greatest joy in inspiring people to find purpose\, life and vitality. \nScott helps educators identify the right keys to structure success for students — academically\, socially and emotionally. Educators\, seasoned and new to the profession\, will leave with new approaches and strategies\, an increased understanding of student self systems and excitement for connecting with their students.
